"Grams" is my husbands Grandmother. Laynie's Great-Grandmother.
She is the dearest, sweetest lady and makes some killer blueberry pancakes. Tomorrow marks ten years since she lost her husband, Jeff's Grandpa. I know Grams sometimes feels lost and lonely without him but the truth is, she is so much stronger than she thinks!
I am continually inspired by her independence and spunk. At 80-something years old she lives by herself, without any family in town and still manages to garden like crazy, create the most beautiful paintings to submit in contests and art shows, swim almost every day of the summer...and just last year spent two weeks on a hiking trip in Alaska! (YES, truly she did!)

Each year the family goes to visit Grams the weekend of memorial day. Grandpa is buried at Fort Custer and we have the priviledge of participating in the long-held tradition of putting flags on all the veterans graves.
Jeff, Laynie and I drive down on Friday night where we enjoyed a delicious dinner and fun evening with Grams. Laynie hammed it up showing off all her tricks for Grams! The next morning we met Jeff's mom and a few siblings at Ft. Custer. It was early, wet and chilly...but worth it.
Uncle Jeff showing Kenzie how to dig a hole for the flags.
Laynie being a goofball.....
Don't they look happy about being out in the rain early in the morning... :)
Afterwards we went back to Grams house for breakfast and the kids played out in the yard. Thankfully it warmed up a little!
Chels teaching Laynie how to race...this is "ready position"...
Ready...set...GO!
Chasing Uncle Derrick....
Wish you could hear the peals of laughter coming out of these girls!
I am so glad we have the chance to do this each year!
Hope your memorial weekend was awesome!
